Year 7 visited Nissan Sunderland Plant to experience ‘engineering discovery’.

The aim of the event was to inspire young people to consider careers in the advanced manufacturing industry.

During the visit the children heard how engineers are adapting to an ever changing world.  The changing from petrol to electric driven cars.

The first cars produced at the plant were the Nissan Bluebird. On the production line the children watched as Qashqai and Leaf cars were being constructed.

A workshop and presentation allowed the children to experience the birth of a car from a sheet of metal to a fully functional machine being driven from the factory.

The benefits of the electric car were examined and future developments in the car industry were discussed.
