In Extra-curricular

This term, pupils in every year group have been learning about the fundamental British Values of justice and equality.

Following on from the Hate Crime workshops we held in October, Show Racism the Red Card came to school on Wednesday 2nd December to raise awareness of racial equality, not just in sport but in all areas of British society.

Former Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard ran a fitness session with each class in the hall, focussing on team work, listening and thinking skills in a range of games and sports activities.

Workshops to raise awareness of racism and equality were run by Show Racism the Red Card tutors Justine and Richard. In addition, each child chose their own way to respond to the issues they were learning about. These included: making an iPad movie, designing a t-shirt, writing a rap, making a badge or designing an ideal world in a box.

The children’s response to the day was overwhelmingly positive; they really enjoyed it and learned a lot from their experiences.
