On bank holiday Monday, 1st May, our school steel band were busy performing to quite a crowded Rothbury for their Food and Craft Festival. We had an early start to get to Rothbury, complete with a large van transporting all the instruments we needed for the day. Unlike last year, the rain held off and we had bouts of sunshine, even though it was chilly.
This was our largest audience ever and there was a steady stream of visitors to the festival who all seemed to stop and listen to our playing, making complimentary remarks and even, in the case of some little children, having a little dance!
We were a little nervous in our first set but then got our act together, determined to do a good job of entertaining people and were much more confident by our second set. We played a few pieces we almost know off by heart (“James Bond” and “12 bar blues”) and a few new ones too, including “Budapest”, “One call away” and “YMCA” which we have only just learned.
There was the opportunity to have a wander in between performances and to sample the various foods on offer. Thanks to our very well behaved, talented children and their very supportive and encouraging parents we all had a really good day and band members should be really pleased with themselves.
Well done everyone!
